Dinos, the sole survivor of a group of saboteurs who were exterminated by the Germans for treason, finds refuge in the house of a crippled girl. She hides him in the basement and, falling in love with him, keeps him prisoner without telling him that the war is over, not wanting to lose him. When Dinos manages to escape from the basement, he faces the bitter reality. His girlfriend doesn't care for him, his friends died in the Occupation, and the one who betrayed the group was a fellow soldier. He decides to return to the basement and the girl who really loved him.

During the years of the German Occupation, Dimitris Korres, commander of a police station, is considered a collaborator of the occupiers but everyone, even his daughter Maria, is wrong as he, code-named "OP 34", is one of the leading members of the Resistance. From his post he helps Greek patriots and saves the lives of prisoners, such as Lieutenant Avgeris, whose plane was shot down in Greek airspace. Avgeris is in love with Maria, who tries to help him flee to the Middle East, but they are captured by the Germans. Avgeris, in order not to be harmed, agrees to cooperate with them.

The 22nd of June, 1941. A usual morning in a usual children camp near the very frontier. Children are splashing in a river, and take the landing troops, coming down from the sky, with enthusiasm, thinking that this is a military training. But these are fascists. They drive all children together in a camp, fence them in a barblock and announce that all of them will soon be sent to Germany. The Soviet tank battalion, located nearby, makes an attempt to save the children, but is defeated. Only one tank driven by uncle Vasia survived. Accidentally the survived tankman meets Michael, a boy who was ordered by Germans to burn pioneer neckties. He asks uncle Vasia to help him rescue children from captivity. The tankman agrees. The rescue of young pioneers operation starts on the only one tank with one little assistant.

Towards the end of the war, Eleni meets the rebel Kostas, who is being pursued by the Germans. One night, the rebel arrives wounded at his brother Giannis' house where Eleni works. She'll take care of him, and then they'll say goodbye. When Kostas tries to meet Eleni again, he is arrested by the Germans. But he will escape execution, as the rebels will save him from death.
