Butt effortlessly transfers his laconic persona honed on “Corner Gase” to a feature-length wayward private eye mystery. When slinky Smart appears in his office and hires him to find her missing brother, he doesn't bother to correct her belief that he is a detective, whose office is across the hall. His job is novelty goods salesman which ill prepares him for the nefarious deeds he is soon enmeshed in. He also fails to recognise that her sob story doesn't ring true. This involves double-dealing in the world of computer games , escalating from intellectual property theft to murder. Butt intrepidly continues to unravel the case, with assistance from his oafish pal Koechner, as developments are conveyed by mock-noir narration. He gets help in one scene from his TV co-star (and wife) Robertson. Overall, it is an enjoyable, witty crime thriller with a cosy feel and quirky characters.
