Thaumatrope n°1 is an avant-garde non-narrative animation created physical using the Victorian optical toy. The thaumatropes are made through a combination of illustrations and photographs. It aims to portrait anxiety and explore ways to expand cinematic language.

In 2049, Yuuma Sawatari is an elementary school kid who loves everything about space and astronomy. He was initially excited when his parents bought a robot called Nanako, but he was disappointed when he learned that she was basically just a boring housekeeping robot. However, when he does finally try to talk to her about space, something strange happens. Her system crashes and is taken over by what claims to be a marooned alien ship! The alien ship wants Yuuma's help to get back to space!

The protagonist feels every minute detail in life, and senses the warmth and glitter of life in the briefest of moments. This film takes inspiration from classic French cinema. The director captures the lights and shades of a city and the feeling of solitude with black and white sketches and colorful pastels. The film aspires to be a poem, a brisk song, and a gift to every “one” living alone in cities.
