Leopoldo Torres Ríos was an Argentine film director, one of the pioneers of Argentine cinema. He directed 37 films, between 1923 and 1959, including three silent films. He was characterized by his intimate gaze and his rejection of openly commercial films. He was also a photographer, tango lyricist and journalist. He was the father of the iconic film director Leopoldo Torre Nilsson.
