British rock band Renaissance is surely capable of getting their music across without a chunk of symphonic orchestra in their background. Featuring music by Michael Dunford, Jon Camp, and lyrics by Betty Thatcher, the anthemic, folky, and lithe singing of Annie Haslam is unmistakable; the imaginative, evocative words are brought to life with tasteful, dramatic music that makes you part of the story they are to tell. John Tout's piano sets the appropriate pace and flourish with care, and carries the band for most of the part. With due respect to the well regarded album versions of each of the songs, neither instruments overpower each other in this TV concert, which makes it all the more a unique treat to witness.
