"Holmes" (Basil Rathbone) and "Watson" (Nigel Bruce) find themselves in Quebec investigating the ghoulish murder of "Lady Penrose" who has had her throat "torn out" by a monster that has the local community petrified. Of course, it cannot be a monster so our duo deduce their way to the real culprit. Along the way, "Watson" manages to fall in a bog a couple of times and even get a bit squiffy in this more traditional story with an intriguing and eerily presented ending. Gerald Hamer multi-tasks well, too.
