Kubrick. Hitchcock. Scorsese. Lynch. None of them hold a candle to Kurt Ryan, the enigmatic director of this film. His work never received the mainstream support it deserved, but inner circle film critics and studio executives saw through his rugged exterior and saw the untapped talent underneath. Unfortunately, Ryan passed away in 2012, during production of the film "Tickle Me Plenty". The film was released posthumously, and Ryan was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Directing, though he was beat out by noted Frenchman Michel Hazanavicius. Roger Ebert dubbed Ryan "the one that got away", and despite his short career, his legacy as one of the greatest filmmakers of all time stands.
